The 33rd of August

Drop D Tuning

(D) Lord today there is no salvation
(G) The band packed up and gone
(A) Left me standing with my penny in my (D) hand

(D) There’s a big crowd at the station
Where the (G) blind man sings his songs
(A)He can see what they can’t understand.

It’s the (G) thirty-third of August
And I’m finally touching (D) down
(G) Eight days from (Em) Sunday
Finds me (A) Saturday (D) bound

(D) Once I stumbled through the darkness
(G) Tumbled to my knees
(A) A thousand voices screaming in my (D) brain

(D) Woke up in a squad car
Busted (G) down for vagrancy
(A) Outside my cell as sure as hell it looked like (D) rain

(D) But now I’ve put my dangerous feelings
(G) Under lock and chain
(A) Yes I killed my violent nature with a (D) smile

(D) Though the demons danced and sung their songs
(G) Within my fevered brain
(A) Not all my God-like thoughts Lord were (D) defiled

It’s the (G) thirty-third of August
And I’m finally touching (D) down
(G) Eight days from (Em) Sunday
Finds me (A) Saturday (D) bound
